We spent the day yesterday at Chapaboma banana plantation! Chapaboma is a huge plantation with over 1200 banana trees (producing over 20,000 bananas)! It is also located right on the banks of a 200 mile man made lake called Kariba. We arrived under an enormous shady tree and were immediately greeted by a group of women singing and dancing, welcoming us to the plantation. One of the Zambian workers took us on a tour of the plantation, telling us everything we wanted to know, including the hippos that come up from the lake at night to munch on the bananas. We marched further into the plantation and closer to the banks of the lake, and the view of the water grew more and more beautiful. As we arrived on the edge of the water it was hard to believe I was still in Africa. The breeze blew across the flowing water grasses and the sun shimmered over the water. It was gorgeous.
We walked back to the gigantic tree and enjoyed a meal of nishma, relish, and chicken that we had brought with us as a gift, that the village women had prepared for us. After lunch we loaded back into the land cruisers and headed down the bumby road back to Choma. Good day.
